I was diagnosed as having invasive breast cancer at the age of 30. I had first seen my GP 5 months before I was finally referred to the hospital.
I did go back a few times but it wasn’t until I felt a second “lump” that I was finally referred.
I probably would have thought nothing of it but, thank God, I read a magazine article on a young woman who had herself been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. If it wasn’t for that article – things might well have been a lot worse for me.
Since then I have had a double mastectomy with reconstruction and chemotherapy. My Goal? Simple! If seeing this calendar motivates just one woman to self check and act on concerns, then I’ve done my job.
It’s quite a scary diagnosis but two years on I’m getting there.
I asked my Mum what phrase would sum me up, she said, “You’re a girl with balls!!!”.
